About Tyniah James, M.S., LCMHC, LPC
Welcome, I'm Tyniah James a licensed mental health counselor serving clients in North and South Carolina. For over five years, I've supported children, individuals, and families through compassionate, trauma- informed care. My work is rooted in creating a safe, supportive space where healing feels possible and progress feels personal.
"Authenticity is the foundation
of meaningful connections"
This belief guides every session I hold - whether i'm working with children, young adults, or families. I believe when you show up authentically, it creates space for real connection, trust, and growth. My goal is for each person to feel seen, understood, and supported through a personalized therapeutic experience that allows healing to unfold naturally.
HOW IT ALL BEGAN
The Story Behind the Passion

My journey into counseling began in 2022, but the foundation was laid much earlier. I didn’t always envision myself as a therapist — however, even in high school, supporting others came naturally. I often found myself being a listening ear and a steady source of support, long before I had the language to call it “therapy.”
For a long time, the idea of becoming a therapist felt intimidating. Mental health carried a heavy stigma within the African-American community, and pursuing a path that felt uncertain brought its own fears. Still, guided by faith over fear, I chose to follow what genuinely fulfilled me.
I earned my undergraduate degree from Claflin University in 2020, studying Psychology and Criminal Justice. This combination shaped my understanding of both human behavior and systemic impact — and ultimately deepened my passion for trauma-informed care. I went on to pursue my Master of Science in Clinical Counseling Psychology at Clayton State University in Morrow, Georgia.
During my graduate training, I interned at a Children’s Advocacy Center, where I worked as part of a

multidisciplinary team supporting children and families affected by trauma. There, I gained extensive experience in trauma-informed care and provided TF-CBT to confirmed victims of sexual abuse and other forms of trauma. That experience profoundly shaped how I approach safety, trust, and healing within the therapeutic space.
After relocating to Charlotte, North Carolina, I continued my work across community, school-based, and private practice settings. Over time, witnessing clients grow — reclaiming their voice, processing trauma, managing anxiety, and rediscovering themselves — affirmed not only my passion for this work, but my purpose within it.

These experiences led to the creation of Envisions Counseling. At the core of my work is a belief in connection, authenticity, and meeting each client exactly where they are. I am deeply committed to providing care that feels personal, supportive, and empowering — allowing healing to unfold at a pace that feels right for each individual.

BEYOND THE THERAPY ROOM
Outside of the therapy room, I value making space for the things that help me recharge and stay present. In my own time, I enjoy DIY projects, traveling, and spending quality time with family and friends. I live by the motto,
